A Vintage Homebuilt

April 8, 2008 — Thanks to the observant eye of Sparky Barnes Sargent, who's working on the EAA Publications team this week, you'll be reading about this recently restored Dyke Delta owned by Dave Williams of Key Largo, Florida, in a future issue of EAA Sport Aviation. Sparky saw it taxiing in after landing and tracked Dave down in Row 8 in the Homebuilt area.

Dave originally built the aircraft in 1972 but hasn't flown it to an air show since 1978. That's because en route to Oshkosh in 1979 he had an engine failure and made a forced landing in Kansas. The airplane sat in his hangar and then in his garage for some 35 years before he transported it to his home in Key Largo where he began restoring it. And, now it's back flying again. Dave was delighted to be back among his aviation friends with his airplane, and you'll find him by his airplane every morning, more than willing to talk about it.
